Indoor temperature and functioning of the heating system
Our target indoor temperature is 21°C. Temperatures can vary by one and a half degrees. It is normal for radiators to feel cool sometimes or for their bottom and top to be at different temperatures. The temperature inside the apartment is what matters, not the temperature of the radiators. You can check the indoor temperature of your home by measuring it in the middle of the room, at a height of about one metre.
Ensure that the heating works
If your home feels too cold or draughty, there are a few steps you can take to ensure that your heating works.
If your home feels too cold or draughty, there are a few steps you can take to ensure that your heating works.
- Check that radiators or thermostats are not covered by furniture or curtains so that air flows as freely as possible and heat can spread more efficiently throughout the room.
- Check that inlet air valves in the window frames and make-up air valves in the walls are open. If air cannot flow through the valves into the apartment, make-up air may rush in uncontrollably, for example through the letter box or under the front door, making the apartment feel draughty and cold.
- If possible, air your apartment using quick cross ventilation.
- You can reduce the temperature in your apartment from the radiator thermostat. Bringing the temperature down to a planned level is an effective way to improve indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption.
- Please note that any additional heaters will confuse the heating system, possibly causing it to reduce the heating of the apartment.
Sometimes, the heating system may malfunction and the above steps will not help. In that case, you should report the issue to the maintenance company. You can submit a non-urgent fault report through Resident’s online service EAsy.
Also contact the maintenance company if you feel too much draught from the windows or door or if you suspect that there is air in the radiators. The maintenance company is responsible for sealing windows and doors and bleeding radiators.
